The Joker’s many incarnations in film and television saw prominent actors take entirely different approaches to playing the DC Comics villain. The first time television audiences saw Joker was Cesar Romero’s performances in the Batman television series of the 1960s. Romero’s campy approach to the character became iconic mainly for his clown-like performances as Batman’s primary villain and focussed on his gag-oriented antics in countering the Caped Crusader, keeping the character family-friendly while still ably capturing his portrayal in the original comics.
