In the1970s, Chinese and Hong Kong martial arts movies swept the Western world, introducing many to the likes of Bruce Lee and other famed actors from Hong Kong. These movies have continued to be popular throughout the decades after the seventies, giving rise to films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon that gained widespread acclaim in the early-2000s. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was also the first time a Chinese wuxia movie gained major popularity outside of mainland China, branching out from the genre of novels that often appeared with these tropes. Wuxia movies have now become a staple in Chinese language movies, and some of the biggest directors from the mainland have made their versions.
